WHAT IS GTT?
GTT or OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) measures the body’s ability to use a type of sugar, called glucose, which is the body’s main source of energy. it is used to screen diabetes type 2, pre-diabetes, and gestational diabetes mellitus most commonly.
Why GTT over hba1c test?
The presence of anemia can cause the reduction in hba1c values and some studies suggest that this may be one of the reasons for lower hba1c levels observed during pregnancy.
GTT-75PLUS
A75g anhydrous glucose to screen and detect diabetes and pre-diabetes.
Pure Glucose
Contains Dextrose Anhydrous which is a pure form of glucose (C6H12O6).
Compliance
Facilitate better compliance as it comes with the prescribed quantity.
Precision
Does not contain any additives like minerals, vitamins, etc., which actually are not required in the prescribed test.
Directions
*Take 300 ml (approx.) of normal (room temperature)/lukewarm water. do not use cold water. *While continuous stirring add GTT-75 plus. *Drink over a period of 5 minutes.
Limitations of Conventional glucose
- These packs are easily available and are not meant to meet the need of gtt test. primarily contains DEXTROSE MONOHYDRATE 75g, which is not recommended.
- Contains DEXTROSE MONOHYDRATE, which is not the recommended form as it contains a molecule of water (C6H12O6.H2O)
- Does not come with prescribed quantity. mostly, conventional glucose packs are available in quantities that do not actually meet the need of the test.
- Contains additives like vitamins, minerals, etc.
Generally there is no specific awareness regarding the type of glucose source to be used for screening of diabetes. Mainly green coloured packs, the conventional glucose packs are used which are actually meant and marketed to meet other type needs mainly in sports as a energy booster, and also contains additives like colours, flavours vitamins and minerals etc.Though dextrose monohydrate can be used instead but it should be 82.5g ( due to the presence of a molecule of water).
